Our Tree House

Hello everyone I hope you're enjoying a wonderful summer!

We've been busy in our backyard.
I wanted to share a few photos of our deck progress.

Jennie's eagle eye pointed us in the direction of World Market where we purchased the couch and chairs.

The chalkboard was found through Pottery Barn.
It's a family tradition to write festive notes depending on our celebration
(Or list out the menu when entertaining).  It's a lot of fun you should get one.

We found the teak table at Chair King.

The Gallery Wall

Hello everyone we made it to hump day!
I hope you are having a terrific day and enjoying your summer.

I wanted to share with you a completed project.
For as long as I can remember I've wanted a gallery wall.
After much planning our hallway is complete.

I struggled for the longest time due to the small dimensions.
Then I took forever deciding what paint color to use and what light fixture to install.

I had so many unanswered questions, how many photos, how high to hang them?
Did I want small and large photos mixed, or all the same size.
Did we want the photos in black & white or color?

The plan started falling into place...
We continued the Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore paint color from the living room down the hallway.

We decided on all uniformed sized frames because we recycled ones we had.
A deciding factor for choosing colored prints was easy once the subject matter was determined.

The hallway was completed once we added the cherry on top!
We removed the old hall light and installed this amazing flush-mount
from Mari at Back Home Furniture.

Order one today!

Weekend DYI Project

Hello everyone I hope you had a great weekend!
I wanted to share a quick little project I completed.

I ordered a yard of betwixt charcoal/ecru from Schumacher.

As you can tell I love this fabric and have enjoyed it in the green.
When I heard it had been released in a charcoal I knew it was time for an update.

Here is the green next to the new charcoal fabric.

I love it when kitty cats want to help don't you?

and help some more...

Finally a chair is completed!

A simple update...

The Planter Quest Continues...

I was chatting with a colleague about hotels in San Antonio, Texas.  I asked him if he was familiar with the Hotel Havana.  As we continued our conversation
I naturally went to the computer to pull up the hotel information.

When low and behold the inspiration for the perfect planter was right before my eyes!

Look at the cylinder cement planters with this look!  Yum
Even if our chairs and couch aren't an exact match it's the "style".

Now I really want to visit our favorite Round Top vendor, Richard Taylor.
Here's a planter I purchased from Richard on our last trip.

Click on Pinterest or here for Richard Taylor/garden to see all his many designs.
I can't wait for our next trip to Round Top!

The Great Outdoors a Fun Experience

In my quest for looking for different planters The Great Outdoors was recommended to me twice in one week.

It is located on South Congress in Austin, Texas.

Eeny, meeny, miny, moe...and which planter will I choose...

As we start to design around the pool area,
I'm pondering the furniture, plants and which planter direction I will take.

Here are a few photos of my favorite planters...

Which one will it be?

Italian Cypress

We're starting to think about landscaping our backyard.
I'm obsessing over adding Italian Cypress trees.
Don't they add such a wonderful texture to this setting.

Symmetrical Pool Art

This pool design from a symmetrical point of view is perfection.
The pavers strategically placed around the parameter of the pool are incredible.
It's so simple but yet so complicated.

Deck Stair Lighting

Once we're ready to install lighting I would love to add lights to our deck stairs.
Lights like this would be amazing at night while walking up from the pool area.

An Idea for giving Terra Cotta Pots a Face Lift

Hello everyone I hope your having a wonderful day.

This weekend as I was viewing different blogs I came across this photo.
I have several old terra cotta pots that are in good shape.
I have been researching ideas to give them a face lift.

Could I achieve this zinc look with chalk paint?
<3
If so, I would like to do a grouping in the yard with different sizes.

What Would Ellen do?

Back in May 2013, both Cote de Texas and Elle magazine featured Ellen and
Portia's home. While pondering ideas for our outdoor area,
I thought to myself, "what would Ellen do"?

These chairs photographed under the amazing trees appear to have an adjustable back.
I love the thick dark charcole cushions mixed with the wood....

We want a sitting area on the deck but finding confortable furniture is a challenge.
We've found one in Georgetown but it's in a dark wicker I perfer the lighter color.

I continue to like the distressed table with wicker chairs, this would be ideal placed down by the pool.

I wouldn't mind these lounger chairs...

(This particular photo was from a previous home,
it's a much more contemporary home than the horse ranch.)

Awe... so that's what Ellen did!
